Trauma  and PTSD 

Psychological trauma is damage to a person's mind as a result of one or more events that cause overwhelming amounts of stress that exceed the person's ability to cope or integrate the emotions involved. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) is one of the most highly recommended treatments for PTSD and Trauma  in the world. It is currently endorsed by the World Health Organization, and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. Research has shown that EMDR for PTSD is extremely effective. 


Anxiety

Anxiety is the mind and body's reaction to stressful, dangerous, or unfamiliar situations. It's the sense of uneasiness, distress, or dread you feel before a significant event.  


Depression

We all have times when we feel down, but depression is about more than feeling sad or fed up for a few days. Depression causes a low mood that lasts a long time and affects your daily life. It can range from mild to severe. Mild depression can make you feel low and as though everything is harder to do. 


Abuse and domestic violence

Domestic violence and abuse includes any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been, intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality. 


Suicidal and self-harming behaviours 

Suicidal behaviour refers to talking about or taking actions related to ending one’s own life.  Self-harm is when somebody intentionally damages or injures their body. 


Relationship issues

Arguments and disagreements occur within all close relationships, and are a normal part of dealing with differences in ideas, beliefs, and perspectives.  However, chronic relationship conflict and stress is a serious issue. Some people may have difficulty with communicating with loved ones which may lead to relationship breakdowns.  


Low self esteem

Low self-esteem is characterised by a lack of confidence and feeling badly about oneself. People with low self-esteem often feel unlovable, awkward, or incompetent. 


Stress 

Stress is a physical and emotional reaction that people experience as they encounter changes in life. Stress is a normal feeling. However, long-term stress may contribute to or worsen a range of health problems including digestive disorders, headaches, sleep disorders, and other symptoms.

Panic attacks

A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions when there is no real danger or apparent cause. Panic attacks can be very frightening. When panic attacks occur, you might think you're losing control, having a heart attack or even dying.

I can offer appointments based around your needs. I understand that it can be difficult to get time away from work so I can offer daytime, evening and weekend appointments.

I offer several different types of therapies to support people to make positive changes in their lives and to support recovery from trauma and difficult life experiences. These therapies include Counselling, EMDR, CBT, Reflexology, couples therapy and Clinical supervision.  

I provide a confidential and professional service for individuals, couples and families.   

Therapy allows people to discuss their problems, worries and difficult feelings they are experiencing in a safe, non-judgemental environment.  Therapy can mean different things to different people but generally, it is something people seek when they want to change a certain aspect of their life, need support, or because they want to explore and understand their thoughts and feelings more closely.
